Danish Envoy Discusses Kim Davy Issue With Union Home Secretary

New Delhi: Denmark's Ambassador to India Freddy Svane today met Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami and is understood to have discussed the issue of extradition of Kim Davy, the main accused of Purulia arms drop case, to face trial in this country.

Goswami is believed to have pressed for extradition of Davy from Denmark as he is a fugitive under Indian law and New Delhi wants him to be brought to justice, official sources
said.

The Danish Ambassador is said to have conveyed to the Home Secretary about the legal complications in extraditing Davy to India, sources said.

Davy is accused of orchestrating the air-drop of a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including 300 AK-47s, anti-tank grenades and rocket-propelled grenade launchers, from an AN-26 aircraft that he owned on the night of December 17, 1995 in West Bengal's Purulia district.

The issue of extradition of Davy has strained bilateral ties. In July 2012, India scaled down diplomatic contact with the Denmark after that country rejected its extradition request.
