New Delhi:
Battered in successive elections in various parts of the country barring Tripura, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) begins a four-day meet in Delhi tomorrow to decide on steps to spruce up its organisation, especially in its erstwhile strongholds of West Bengal and Kerala.
The meeting of the Central Committee would finalise the draft political and tactical line for a debate within all the rungs of the party over the next four-five months before it is adopted at the Party Congress to be held at Visakhapatnam in April next year.
It is learnt that the party would assess the ground situation in West Bengal where it has lost several elections including at the local levels.
The review is being carried out as a large section of the party feels communalism was raising its head in West Bengal which had seen no tension over the past four or five decades.
CPI(M) leaders have been blaming the Trinamool Congress for helping the BJP gain ground in the state by fanning communal passions.
The Central Committee, which is almost a hundred-member body including special and permanent invitees, would also decide on protest actions being launched by trade unions and
mass organisations in the next few weeks against the "anti-people" policies of ruling BJP-led coalition.
The CPI(M) feels the Narendra Modi government represents "a combination of corporate power and RSS-led Hindutva forces" and the policy steps taken by it clearly indicate a "rightward shift".
Earlier this month, the CPI(M) Politburo had finalised a draft report on the emerging political situation in the country. It had also given final touches to a draft on the political-tactical line to be adopted by the party in the aftermath of its dismal poll performance.
These two drafts would be placed for discussion before the Central Committee which would meet from tomorrow till October 29.
After the Central Committee finalises the draft, it would be circulated till the lowest ranks of the party members for debate and discussion. The drafts would be finalised at the Party Congress in Vishakhapatnam from April 14-19.
