Chhattisgarh to Set Up District-Level Panels for Third-Gender Community

Raipur: Chhattisgarh government has decided to set up district-level committees for the effective implementation of its schemes for the third-gender community.

The district-level committees, to be headed by Collectors or Additional Collectors, will ensure that the benefits of the welfare schemes for transgenders reach them, an official said here today.

In a circular issued in Raipur to Collectors, the social welfare department has asked them to form the said committees and identify people from the third-gender community in their respective areas, the official said.

As per the circular, the chief medical and health officer in each district will be on the committee along with a social worker, a psychologist and two representatives of the third- gender community.

Besides, the joint director/deputy director of the social welfare department in each district will be appointed as the member secretary of the committee, he added.

The committee will issue certificates and identity cards at the district-level to people from the third-gender community, which will help them avail all the relevant government provisions like ration card, passport, Aadhaar card, birth certificate etc., he said.
