Mumbai Chief Income Tax Commissioner's car injures two women

Mumbai: Mumbai's Chief Income Tax Commissioner T K Shah's driver was arrested for rash driving after his car carrying the commissioner in it, rammed into two taxis on a Worli flyover and injured two women, the police said today.

Mr Shah did not suffer any injuries in the incident which occurred at about 11 pm yesterday, police said adding the driver was arrested after the car hit two taxis coming from the opposite direction on the Mela Junction Flyover Bridge.

The driver was driving on the wrong side due to confusion as he was not aware that only one-way traffic was allowed on the flyover after 10 pm, though two-way traffic is allowed during day time, Worli police station senior inspector Dipak Pawar said.

Mr Pawar said that the two injured women, travelling in taxis, were rushed to Poddar Hospital after which they were discharged after first aid.

The vehicle was seized for further probe, Mr Pawar said, adding that the driver was booked under Section 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and Section 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

As it was a bailable offence, the driver was released on bail by the police station, the police said.
