Ten steps to protect your family from Swine flu

New Delhi: Swine flu has returned to the capital with at least 60 cases recorded in January this year. Three people have already died so far after fresh spurt in cases. The Delhi Government has directed 22 hospitals to set up isolated wards to offer treatment to patients affected by the disease.

Here is a 10-point guide on how to protect your family from swine flu:

  1. Wash hands after using the restroom, before eating, and after touching high-use or high-traffic surface.

  2. Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth and wash hands frequently.

  3. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  4. Avoid crowded places like buses and markets if not well. Cover your mouth or nose with tissue/handkerchief when coughing or sneezing.

  5. Clean and disinfect surfaces regularly, especially the surfaces that people often touch with their hands.

  6. Get at least 8 hours of healthy sleep to strengthen the immune system.

  7. Exercise daily to strengthen the immune system.

  8. Check each morning for flu symptoms like fever, coughing, fatigue, muscle aches, sore throats, runny noses, vomiting and diarrhoea.

  9. Keep children at home if they display any flu-like symptoms and make them rest.

  10. See a doctor immediately if suffering from a health condition like asthma and are displaying flu-like symptoms.
