In Five Years, Varanasi Will Achieve its Full Potential, Promises Amit Shah

BJP president Amit Shah lights the lamp during the inauguration programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modis Parliamentary office in Varanasi on Wednesday.

Varanasi: The parliamentarian from Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will usher in development in Varanasi, so much so that five years on, the place will achieve its full potential, Mr Modi's closest aide and BJP chief Amit Shah said today while opening the parliamentary office of the PM.

The temple town, he said will be a model city while retaining its ancient spiritual ethos.

Varanasi, one of the world's oldest living cities and a centre of Indian culture, will witness "cultural development," Mr Shah promised. And the development, he said, would begin from the PM's new office, located in the city's Ravindrapuri area.

Mr Shah, who was the key architect of BJP's sweep in Uttar Pradesh, said, "During the elections, it was not decided which constituency would be retained (Mr Modi had contested from Vadodara too). But even then I'd whisper that the people of Varanasi would not be disappointed."

"I was very happy when the party decided that he would be the MP from Varanasi," he added.

Mr Modi's candidature from Varanasi had not only helped the BJP capture the votes in Purvanchal and eastern Bihar, it also had helped revive the party's fortunes in both states.

The new BJP chief is expected to stay overnight and offer prayers at the Vishwanath temple tomorrow before leaving for Hyderabad.

He is also scheduled to hold meetings with the office bearers of the BJP's local unit.
