Guntur, Andhra Pradesh: YSR Congress President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was today discharged from a hospital where he was admitted after police foiled his indefinite fast undertaken to seek special category status for Andhra Pradesh.

The 42-year-old Opposition leader, who launched his fast on October 7, was forcibly shifted to Government General Hospital by police in the early hours of Tuesday.

Mr Jagan was kept under observation and medication for the next 36 hours by a group of doctors, said Hospital Superintendent Raju Naidu.

The YSR Congress chief was discharged after his health condition improved, he said.

The main Opposition party had taken strong exception to the police action and announced an agitation programme to push for its demand of providing special status to the State which was bifurcated last year.

"The agitation programme will be held from October 17 to 21 seeking special status and the party will continue to mount pressure for fulfilling its demand.

"On October 18, rallies will be held at all Assembly constituency headquarters and on the next day party cadre and sympathisers will picket government offices," Ambati Rambabu, YSRCP spokesperson, told reporters on Tuesday.
