As Ahmedabad Touches 48 Degrees, Heat Stroke Cases On The Rise

Ahmedabad: With Ahmedabad recording its highest ever temperature on Thursday, heat stroke cases in the city are seeing a sharp increase. Five people in Gujarat, including three in Ahmedabad, have died due to heat related cases in the last four days.

40-year-old construction worker Kalpesh had just stepped out of his home in Paldi when he collapsed. "He just moved out and started feeling giddy and collapsed,"' said his mother Radhaben.

At one of the biggest government hospitals in Ahmedabad, VS Hospital, at least 40 people hit by heat stroke have been admitted in the last four days. Official sources said that in all about 60 cases have been reported at two main government hospitals in the city - VS Hospital and Civil Hospital.

Ahmedabad and state capital Gandhinagar reported a maximum temperate of 48 degrees on Thursday. The temperature dipped a little today with the maximum at 44.6 degrees in Ahmedabad.

The Ahmedabad municipal corporation has already issued a red alert for the city issuing guidelines on how to protect from heat wave conditions.
